Yıldırım et al. (2026) evaluated BPC-157 in a rat model of lower-limb ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. In the BPC-157-treated I/R group, the investigators reported reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) and total oxidant status (TOS) levels compared with untreated I/R controls, alongside partial restoration of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and total antioxidant status (TAS). [1] Gene expression analysis showed downregulation of p53, Bax, and Caspase-3 mRNA, with upregulation of Bcl-2 mRNA. Immunohistochemistry indicated reduced IL-6 and Caspase-3 immunoreactivity and partial restoration of VEGF expression. Histological scoring showed improved skeletal muscle architecture and reduced collagen deposition in the treated group relative to untreated I/R controls. The authors noted that further studies are needed [2].
